Arne Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's natural for doubts to be raised about his position after another heavy loss versus PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in 12 matches, marking the club's poorest run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from the top,” Slot remarked.

“It would be great to turn it around and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's expected that people question you.”

He added, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a difficult position but it is about time that we improved our results.”

Talks with Club Management

Upon being questioned to expand on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach said:

“There's regular dialogue. They are helpful for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they back me.”

He further stated, “Through standard discussions I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so let’s see.”

Persistent Issues and Squad Reaction

The manager lamented known failings from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically wasted chances and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the team's situation.

“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.

“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to consider it. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I’m at the point now where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”

“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a phase of this nature with results this poor.”

Jones stated, “However we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always compete.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad back to its rightful place, show everyone once more the values of this club and why people call it the top club in the world.”

“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
