Former BBC Advisers Face Members of Parliament's Questioning After Assertions of Prejudice in Disclosed Memorandum

Previous British Broadcasting Corporation advisers testifying in front of parliamentary committee

We start with queries from Conservative MP the committee chair, that leads the panel.

She commences by offering background to the leaked document prepared by Michael Prescott and published in the Telegraph.

"I do not desire the BBC tilting toward one side or the other, My only wish is for it balanced, fair and just," he declares.

In response to a query if he believes the British Broadcasting Corporation is institutionally biased, Prescott replies: "Absolutely not. Let's be clear, a great deal the BBC produces is world class - including factual and entertainment shows."

Nevertheless, he states: "There remains significant effort that needs to be done at the BBC."

A further former external BBC adviser questioned by the panel, Caroline Daniel, states she regards the BBC very seriously and that it has a "ongoing system and lively discussion" across dynamic and complex topics.

"Was the BBC prepared to conduct a genuine discussion and argument and take action?" she asks herself. "As I see it, indeed, they were."
