Homages Pour In for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Are Sealed.
More than two weeks following the shocking loss of renowned film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues continue to honor the duo.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Posting on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who starred in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, explained he finally felt ready to post publicly about his profound loss.
"Enough time has gone by that I can now put my grief into words," wrote Elwes, saying that his initial encounter with Reiner made him fall in love. "When we commenced passing more hours together I understood this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor uploaded archival material from the movie, adding that he cannot recall "any day without joy".
"The film is about affection, allegiance and giving. Things that Rob cherished deeply. Which is among the many reasons he was the best person to direct it," Elwes wrote.
He additionally honored Michele Reiner, saying: "Asserting that they were a great team would be an understatement. My heart still aches every time I remember you." He ended with a line from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Colleague and Comrade
In a separate essay, acclaimed director Martin Scorsese shared memories of Reiner, whom he first met in the 1970s.
"Immediately, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a instant connection for each other. He was very funny and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese shared.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's supporting role in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, embodying the father of the lead role.
"He could improvise with the best. He was a virtuoso at comedy, he worked beautifully with everyone, and he grasped the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese added.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Withheld
In a new development, a Los Angeles judge ruled to block the release of the Reiners' autopsy reports, after an appeal from the local authorities.
A court order placed a security hold on the files to prohibit the public release of "related notes, documents, files or images" associated with the ongoing investigation.
The Medical Examiner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the outcome of homicide, with a official listing listing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Aftermath and Reactions
In the wake of the tragedy, public personalities offered divergent responses.
Former President Donald Trump wrote on the matter, making controversial remarks that were broadly criticized by several public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his voice to the detractors recently. Conversing on his show, Rogan characterized the statements as "disappointing" and implied they showed a concerning absence of compassion.
